Skin
The outermost layer of our skin is the epidermis, this is the layer we feel everyday, exfoliate, and moisturize. Skin is like a road, pavement, in a sense, in that the texture is different. Some roads are smooth, bumpy, have potholes, are too narrow, are dirt roads, or gravel even. That's the same variation we can apply to our skin. Similarly, the same can be applied to the weather regarding rain, sun, snow, and natural disasters. People have dry, sensitive, oily, combination, and a variety of other skin conditions. If you do not know your skin type, see a dermatologist.
Exfoliating
We are going to speak on mechanical exfoliation, were you use something to physically remove that first layer of skin, commonly known as "dead skin." There is dry brushing, exfoliating gloves or sponges, and body scrubs. What you choose is up to you and your skin type. When exfoliating, use circular motions and be gentle to your skin, exfoliating can be abrasive enough, so no need to go HAM! Lol! On a more serious note, NEVER exfoliate broken, inflamed, or sunburned skin, it will only make matters worse. Be very cautious if you also have sensitive skin.
Dry brushing is done on "dry" skin, prior to showering, in gentle circular motions, from your neck to your feet. Afterwards, shower as you would regularly.
Exfoliating gloves and sponges are used with your choice of bar soap or body wash, again while gently washing in circular motions.
Body scrubs are preferably used on wet skin either prior to showering or afterwards (remember to rinse the body scrub off completely), the choice is up to you and what works for your skin. Remember to always be gentle, and aware of what's inside your body scrub, as you want to avoid an allergic reaction. BoughyDiva's handmade emulsified, whipped body scrubs are gentle, yet effective in exfoliating your body. Our body scrubs are scented with essential oils, and include almond and fractionated coconut oil, so take note for any allergies.
Smoother Skin
If you followed the above direction with whatever choice of exfoliation of your choosing, then you should have experienced some degree of smoother skin. Physical exfoliation can be done 2-3 times a week, with some people exfoliating daily. Again, do what's best for your skin or what your dermatologist recommends. I see board certified dermatologist, Dr. Alexis Stephens, and I do recommend her 10/10, especially if you have melanin rich skin. Check her out here at https://www.parklanddermatology.com/.
After exfoliating, ALWAYS MOISTURIZE!!! I, personally, have dry skin so I like to nourish my skin (with creams, not lotions) and hydrate with water. A balanced diet and exercise are always other great options in maintaining smooth skin as well, didn't know that huh? Well, we learn something new every day, or at least we should strive to. Thanks for reading!
Happy Exfoliating! See you soon,
